Welcome to The Fellowship!
The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts is an organization for anyone who supports the use of all the arts within the worship life of the Church.
We are choir directors, organists, pianists, and instrumentalists of all kinds. We are banner makers, actors, dancers, visual artists, and worship planners. We are preachers; we are lay leaders. We are members of contemporary ensembles, handbell choirs, and choral groups. We are United Methodists and we are members of many other denominations. In short, we are the Church at worship.
On July 2-7, 1955, Methodist church musicians from around the country were invited to a conference in Estes Park, Colorado. Among the purposes of the event was to make possible the emergence of a national fellowship of Methodist church musicians. A motion was made to name an organizing committee, and thus the group we now know as “The Fellowship” was born.
In July 2005, we celebrated the Golden 50th Anniversary of that first meeting. In those 50 years, we have evolved from focusing primarily on the needs of Methodist musicians to offering a holistic approach to worship arts for members of all denominations.
As The Fellowship enters its next 50 years, we are committed to these simple values…
-Worship Arts that lead to spirituality and faith formation.
-Relationships that lead to hospitality, fellowship and nurture.
I'd love to meet you personally at one of our many Fellowship training events. If you have never attended a Fellowship event before, you will be inspired by the workshops, the new music, the worship services, the musical events, the people, and the wonderful congregational singing.
There are many benefits of Fellowship membership. Many consider our bimonthly magazine, “Worship Arts” worth the total investment of their membership. Members receive discounts on events, music purchased through Cokesbury Music Service, and purchases at Cokesbury Book Stores.
If you are already a member of The Fellowship, I thank you for your support of this vital organization which seeks to enhance the worship life of the Church. If you are not currently a member or have never participated in a Fellowship event, all the members of The Fellowship extend to you a warm invitation to join us in our ministry of artistic worship.
